VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System
Home of the Brave Virtual Salute to Veterans
Veteran patients in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Sierra Nevada Health Care System’s (VASNHCS) Community Living Center (CLC) received a special salute on Veterans Day courtesy of Home of the Brave, one of five support programs for Veterans provided by Soldiers' Angels. Soldiers’ Angels is a nonprofit organization devoted to supporting military families, deployed service members, wounded heroes, and Veterans of all eras.
This year’s Veterans Day visit to the CLC was conducted virtually due to the coronavirus. Local community members submitted pictures of thanks and gratitude to VASNHCS that were then woven together in a Home of the Brave Veterans Day message and posted on VANHCS’ Facebook page. Veteran residents of the CLC were able to view the virtual community salute on computers and laptops located in the Community Living Center. In addition, staff distributed donated baseball caps to each Veteran in the CLC.
“The Home of the Brave campaign is one additional way our community can honor and support our Veterans for their service,” explains Stephanie Torian, VASNHCS Chief of Community Affairs Service. “Our partnership with Soldiers’ Angels provides our corporate partners an opportunity to support our Veterans and increases awareness of the sacrifice our Veterans have made for the freedoms we enjoy today.”
For 17 years, Soldiers' Angels has provided support to active duty service members, family members and Veterans through a variety of programs. One of the organization’s newest programs is Home of the Brave, acquired by Soldiers’ Angels in 2020 that works directly with Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service (VAVS) and corporate partners to provide employees and employers the opportunity to show their gratitude for Veterans on or around Veterans Day.
